Mechelle Schloss art, music, life...

I'm a visual artist and musician currently living in metro DC. My main areas of interest include working with oil, photography, and digital media. Experimentation, and finding the "soul" of my work in a non-figurative way is what really intrigues, and motivates me.
 
I try to always be growing and learning as an artist. Humility, and approaching my work with my whole being and intention, has to be the priority for me to feel 'successful' when all is said and done. My work is very personal, though it takes me on tangents that are suprising to me when I step away from a finished piece.

I'm a musician, and that tends to cause me to think in an abstract flow. Perhaps that training blurs the line between sound, and visual art for me.
The biggest motivation I have as an artist is simply digging in to the work. I become absorbed and fully focused/fused with the process. Art and art appreciation is work and rest for me. And though my focus is non-realism, I enjoy viewing all styles and techniques, from classical oils, to modern paper sculpture. I'm very grateful to be living near the galleries and museums in DC, Baltimore, and northern VA.
